Phuket Paradise

Koh Yao Yai, an island in the Phuket province, is known for its sandy shores, rubber plantations, and fishing villages. We were also told by one of our trusted guides that there were rumors of kratom trees that were unlike any other.

Immediately we booked our flights and accommodations to see what the hype was all about. At first glance, it wasn’t what we were expecting. While it was definitely a Phuket paradise, it was still a growing tourist destination.

That was until we took our jeeps off-road deep into the middle of the island. The brush was getting incredibly dense so we had to continue inward on foot. After an hour of trudging through the brush thinking we’d busted on this expedition, one of our team members tripped on a larger-than-life footprint.

We’d found what we were looking for: the print of the Motark Monster. How he’d gotten out there without anyone seeing him? We haven’t the slightest clue, but we followed the prints as we always have and came across the kratom trees we were looking for.

We marked the spot on our maps, collected as many leaves as we could fit in our bags, and set back to our resort. We dropped our bags off in the room, prepared some kratom to consume, and walked out to the beach.

It was about 30 minutes into talking about the logistics of harvesting the trees that it hit us. The euphoric and calm feeling. The zeroed-in energy. That’s when we finally realized: this was absolutely the Phuket Paradise we were looking for.
